myelination / basses loaded
Join the decade’s most celebrated tap dance company Dorrance Dance for an ELECTRIC offering of tap dance and live music! This brand new program features the “glorious” Basses Loaded (2019) performed by four bassists and four tap dancers (with choreography for all); Myelination is an "exhilarating ensemble piece", in which each dancer is both an ensemble member and an improvisational soloist. Performers take risks and achieve new heights of technical and musical tapping.
*Basses Loaded has been commissioned by New York City Center. Support for new dance works at City Center is provided by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
*Myelination has been commissioned, in part, by Cal Performances, UC Berkeley, Berkeley, California. Myelination (2017 and 2015) has also been commissioned by New York City Center for the Fall for Dance Festival with generous support from the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. Music for Myelination (2015) commissioned by the Charles and Joan Gross Family Foundation.
Myelination was also made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The 2017-2018 creation and presentation of an evening-length version of Myelination is also supported, in part, by a New Music USA Project Grant.
This engagement is supported in part by Mid Atlantic Arts through USArtists International, a program in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Trust for Mutual Understanding.
